Emma attached herself to Sarah because she was afraid to lose her. However, she lost her because of this. What would have happened if she had done it differently then? Emma is so clinging to her memories, that the question arose whether they are still true to reality. Her desire is growing to talk to Sarah about her memories.
She gets into conversation with her younger self on the train, but she is unable to look herself in the eyes. After the loss of her friendship, she always has had trouble connecting.
We also see the 30-year-old Emma go through this. Where minds must come to terms with the still seeking connection shy 90-year-old Emma, in the meantime she is proving of the hypnotherapy session, in which the 30-year-old Emma processes her fear of leaving and in which the therapist himself has incarnated to its younger self opposite her in the train.
